Frøy Aagre og hennes band viste onsdag kveld på Dokkhuset scene hvorfor de har oppnådd internasjonal suksess. Hun har en egen definert stil som aldri blir overenergisk og ekstrem i sin progresjon, men mild, sval og lyrisk innbydende. Selv om vi fikk høre låter med kraftfulle titler som ”Steam train” og ”Atoms”, har Aagre likevel et avmålt ekspressivt ECM-aktig uttrykk, helt uten store ord og inviterer på inderlig ro og balanse – et musikalsk equilibrium. Ulvo, Ellingsen og Wike backer henne lojalt og forsterker Aagres profil og konsept på en utmerket måte. Det er noe magisk lokkende ved Aagres musikk som fenger tilhørerne. Hennes Australia-inspirerte låt ”Rain” var et av flere høydepunkt i kveldens konsert. Norsk jazz kan godt få flere innslag av denne kaliber fra den feminine kontingent.

Frey Aagre and her band appeared Wednesday evening at Dokkhuset stage and showed why they have achieved international success. She has a custom style that never is energetic and extreme in its progression, but mild, cool and lyrical inviting. Although we heard songs with powerful titles as “steam train” and “Atom”, has Aagre still a distant expressive ECM-like expression, with no big words, and invites the intense peace and balance – a musical equilibrium. Ulvo, Ellingsen and Wike backing her loyal and amplifier Aagre profile and concept in an excellent manner.There is something magical enticing at Aagre music that inspire the audience. Her Australian-inspired song “Rain” was one of several highlights for the evening’s concert. Norwegian Jazz may well be several elements of this caliber from the feminine contingent.

Norwegian soprano sax specialist Frøy Aagre, recently signed to the renowned ACT Music returns to this country for her third UK tour. Her third album Cycle of Silence (released in Feb 2010) has received amazing reviews internationally. With a distinctive Nordic edge to her music, she weaves enchanting and haunting lines through her highly melodic compositions, aided by her excellent band. A highlight of the last two London Jazz Festivals, her debut at Southbanks Centre (London) and The Venue (Leeds) should be eagerly anticipated by established fans and newcomers alike.

Great reviews for the sold-out concert (400 seats) at St.Ingbert Jazz Festival.

This year Frøy Aagre is one of four Norwegian jazz artists to be promoted worldwide with the European Jazz Launch program.

Aagre was recently selected for European Jazz Launch, an international program for Norwegian jazz musicians that give additional opportunities to be marketed and booked on a number of key clubs and festivals around the world. The other three selected musicians are Håkon Kornstad, pianist Helge Lien and his trio, and guitarist Stian Westerhus.

“The timing is perfect now that I have launched the new ACT-album, and are touring in Europe, says Aagre. Rikskonsertene-Norwegian Concert Institute, West Norwegian Jazz Center and the Norwegian Jazz Forum collaborate on the project, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

The saxophonist release the critically acclaimed album; Cycle of Silence, on the German label ACT, and the European tour includes the legendary jazz club Ronnie Scott’s in London.

Examples of previous selected artists: Nils Petter Molvaer, Bugge Wesseltoft, Sidsel Endresen, Arve Henriksen, Kristin Asbjørnsen, Paal Nilssen-Love, Eldbjørg Raknes and Morten Qvenild.
